Fridge Staples for Easy Meals Through The Week
A refrigerator is a great place to store all the ingredients you need to make mouth-watering meals. The key to success is going to the fridge and trying out new recipes every few days. If you keep the ingredients on hand, the dishes you crave will be at your fingertips (and ready to cook!) every time you don’t want to cook.
Here’s what we recommend you should have in the fridge:
- Milk – is probably the most versatile food. You can use it to make food, a meal, or drink it as a beverage. You can add it to any meal to make it seem like more when in truth, the food tastes great anyway. You can also blend it into shakes and smoothies to make it seem like you are having a meal.
- Eggs – Besides being extremely healthy, eggs also happen to be one of the best staples for easy meals throughout the week. They can be incorporated into breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even snacks. They are versatile in that they can be used in various cooking styles and can even be used as a versatile ingredient in a number of different recipes.
- Nut Butter – Nut butter, such as almond butter, peanut butter, cashew butter, pumpkin seed butter, and sunflower seed butter, are a staple in many people’s diets. Having a great nut butter on hand can really transform a sandwich—or even a fruit or veggie omelet. The added protein and healthy fats keep you fuller, longer, and not just because it tastes so darn irresistible.
- Roasted Chicken – Roasting chicken is one of the best ways to do this since it is easy to make and can be kept in the fridge for several days. You can eat it as a standalone meal or use it to add a little extra flavor to various other dishes. If you’re game for an extra task on the weekend, then you’ll love this easy weeknight meal idea.
- Crudite – the term “crudite” refers to vegetables cut and stored in a cool, moist place. This may include vegetables such as carrots, celery, broccoli, radish, cauliflower, and fennel. This is a great way to enjoy vegetables on a regular basis without having to spend a lot of time preparing them.
- Sprouted Bread – Sprouted bread can be a great way to have a high-fiber, low-fat, fruit and vegetable-packed, whole grain snack that is ready to eat in ten minutes or less! Plus, it’s much healthier than white bread because it’s made with sprouted wheat (known as spelled) which is not processed in a mill. And, instead of wheat flour, most sprouted pieces of bread use a combination of wheat germ and sprouted wheat.
- Tortillas – make a great base for all kinds of foods: for example, they are excellent for things like burritos, tacos, and quesadillas, as well as being great for wraps and fillings. Some people choose to use tortillas as an alternative to bread, as they are lower in carbs and calories than flour tortillas.
- Greek Yogurt – is a great addition to any fridge, and it can be used in place of sour cream, mayonnaise, and other shelf staples. The best part is that you can whip up a tasty meal in just a few minutes with just a few ingredients.
- Leafy Greens – Leafy Greens, one of the most nutrient-packed foods, is a staple in many diets. Leafy greens such as spinach and kale are rich in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, and the fact that they contain none of the fat of other vegetables is also a plus.
- Berries – are a natural source of antioxidants and other health-promoting nutrients, and they also have a natural sweetness that works well in healthy dishes. They are a great way to boost your vitamins and other nutrients, so you don’t have to worry about the extra calories.
- Hummus – is one of those foods that’s so versatile. It can be the base of a meal, the highlight of a dish, or the main ingredient in a dip. It can be made into a simple sandwich spread, served as a side dish or with a meal, or used in a variety of baked goods and dips. It’s also a simple way to keep track of a hectic schedule because it can be made at home in minutes—and it can stay fresh in the fridge for 3 to 5 days.
